Summer is here…

It’s time to build your brand

“The best time for student-athletes to begin building their brand was last summer. The second best time is now.”
-Tariq Ahmad

Obviously a tongue-in-cheek quote, but there is some truth to it:

Compared to the academic and athletic year, student-athletes have a greatly reduced schedule for the next three months.

They should use this time to take advantage of creating content and growing their brand.

They likely have increased free time. They likely have a reduced schedule. They may be bored.

All of these things equate to an opportune time to boost personal brands.

What to post

  • Day in the Life

    • People love seeing a typical 24 hour period of a student-athlete. Weight training, mental health, gaming with teammates, etc. Give followers a glimpse into your life and how you are preparing for the upcoming athletic and academic year.

  • Offseason workouts

    • Followers appreciate athletes working hard to prep for the upcoming season. Training footage, film sessions, individual workouts with a trainer or coach, etc. make for good content.

  • Interests outside of your sport

    • Everyone that follows you on social media knows that you are a good athlete. Therefore, give people an inside look on what else you like.

    • Makeup, fishing, drawing, it doesn't matter. This content makes you more relatable to your followers.

When to post

Start with one post per week, and stick to a certain date and time for accountability. (ie., I will post content every Wednesday at 2p.)

Also, look at your post analytics and adjust your content as necessary.
