Today’s Case
Notre Dame women’s basketball star partners with investment platform to close racial wealth gap

Notre Dame women's basketball star Olivia Miles is finding ways to support not only her teammates, but all Fighting Irish athletes.
Miles, an All-American who is out for the season recovering from a torn ACL, has formed an NIL partnership with Stackwell Capital. The initiative is providing access to financial education and seeded investment accounts to all student-athletes in South Bend.
Stackwell Capital is a digital investment platform that eliminates the racial wealth gap with tools designed to increase Black ownership of financial assets. As part of the collaboration with Miles, Stackwell will open investment accounts with $25 for every Fighting Irish athlete.
In addition to the investment accounts for her fellow student-athletes, Miles will be featured in Stackwell's NIL newsletter and content series with Founder and CEO, Trevor Rozier-Byrd.
Miles: “Working with Stackwell for me was a must because of how much I believe in their mission. I always want to make sure that I am an advocate for athletes and my community first and foremost, so when this opportunity came about it was the perfect fit for what my goals are off the court.”
The Verdict
NIL for the long haul
Not only is this partnership valuable for the long-term for all Notre Dame student-athletes (not just prominent players), but it teaches them good financial habits now to prepare them for life after college.
A short-term investment ($25) can convert to significant money over the decades with smart investing - and a good way for these athletes to invest their NIL dollars.
Financial education for NIL is crucial
While NIL education as a whole is needed for student-athletes, financial literacy for this group is very much needed.
How to manage their NIL earnings, paying taxes, savings accounts, etc. are all important for student-athletes to learn now. Even if athletes don’t earn enough NIL money to pay taxes ($600 annually), the education to learn the process is paramount.
Love that Stackwell Capital is not only working to eliminate the racial wealth gap, but also providing financial teachings to Irish student-athletes.
It’s possible that some of these athletes go on to work for Stackwell Capital post-graduation based on the financial literacy/NIL education they receive through this initiative.
