Insights and news related to name, image, and likeness
Hello friends! Welcome to the Sports Court NIL Newsletter where three times per week, I will discuss insights and news related to name, image, and likeness.
Today’s Case
Notre Dame point guard Olivia Miles joins Playa Society in a unique partnership
Notre Dame point guard Olivia Miles
Miles, an AP All-American point guard, will join Playa Society (a lifestyle brand focused on bridging the gap for women’s sports) as their first college athlete partner, with the title of Director of Growth and Innovation.
In addition to designing her own limited edition “See No Limits” statement t-shirt — a play off of her mentality & on-court glasses — Miles will build a roster of fellow female college athletes who share the same vision for elevating women’s sports.
(Shoutout to Twitter follower Erica Hanserd for the heads up on this story.)
The Verdict:
Love this relationship as it goes beyond a standard one-and-done deal and makes Miles a valuable member of Playa Society currently and post-graduation.
This deal also puts emphasis on women’s sports and provides these athletes more opportunities to create and secure long-term partnerships with brands.
More student-athletes should be approaching NIL from this angle in that deals should be relationship-based as opposed to solely transaction-based.
Additionally, student-athletes should actively pursue post-graduation opportunities, with partnerships such as this providing a good framework to emulate when working with brands.
