Today’s Case
Georgia creates in-house NIL department

The Bulldogs have formed an in-house NIL department with the intent of providing education to student-athletes, along with managing deals and relationships. UGA will also expand its relationship with Altius Sports Partners, who will also provide an on-site athlete marketing manager to work with Bulldog Athletics.
UGA Athletic Director Josh Brooks: “It is critical that we remain at the forefront of Name, Image and Likeness. Altius Sports Partners is the national leader when it comes to NIL and has been a tremendous partner for us as we navigate this ever-evolving landscape. We are thrilled to bring on an Athlete Marketing Manager and establish our own in-house department. This will continue to enhance and elevate our student-athletes’ success when it comes to NIL.”
The Verdict:
Smart move for Georgia; not only do they see the value of NIL for their student-athletes and school, but this also puts them at the forefront of colleges incorporating full service, in-house NIL solutions.
Also, having an on-site athlete marketing manager/General Manager is big, as this provides a dedicated resource geared to helping school athletes with deals, guidance, etc.
This is inevitable for other P5 institutions to implement in order to appease student-athletes and to stay competitive in the college sports landscape.
It can also be used as part of recruiting; while more colleges are including NIL in their pitches to high school and college transfer athletes, this can separate schools from the pack that do not offer such services.
For schools that do not have the funding or resources of a large P5 school, some aspects of such in-house NIL services can still be leveraged. (Education, courses on how to source deals, etc.)
