Today’s Case

A product that was made popular 30 years ago is once again gaining notoriety.
Jerry Rice could be seen wearing Breathe Right nasal strips when he was on the football field, as the strips helped him inhale more air through his nose and they gave him an edge over the competition. Rice would later go on to become one of Breathe Right’s biggest pitchmen.
USC receiver Brenden Rice, Jerry Rice’s son, is following in his father’s footsteps by promoting the nasal strips through a new NIL deal. Brenden Rice said he’s proud to represent the brand that became so much a part of his father’s success.
Brenden and Jerry are also partnering in the agreement and will create a series of content to educate people about Breathe Right’s benefits. The duo will highlight Foundation Consumer Healthcare, the parent company of Breathe Right. (Also, check out this video featuring the duo.)
Brenden Rice: “Breathe Right has come so far since my dad’s football days. They’re now available in multiple sizes and strengths. My personal favorite is the Lavender strip, especially for sleeping, but you’ll likely see me on the field with Extra Strength Tan. I also love that the strips are drug-free and offer nasal congestion relief for up to 12 hours, which is perfect for me as a busy student-athlete.”

The Verdict
Legacy NIL deal that few can replicate
Not only is this something that is rare (parent partners with a product they made famous during their playing days with their child using the same product a generation later), but the product has practical carry-over to the playing field.
This partnership also may allow Brenden to earn a commission on each Breathe Right product sold that he promotes via social media (if such a deal was orchestrated with the company).
As detailed above, Brenden is a user of the strips and highlights product and personal benefits.
Education tie-in is valuable
Brenden and Jerry partnering on company education is important, as it focuses on the benefits of the product for athletes and non-athletes alike.
Also, for any additional college athletes that sign NIL deals with Breathe Right, they can also be included in education materials.
Brenden doing a Day in the Life video of him showcasing the product and its benefits in a real-world setting would be outstanding.
