Today’s Case
Angel Reese signs NIL deal with Reebok

Angel Reese continues to build per NIL empire off the court - this time, signing an extremely significant (and presumably long-term) partnership.
Yesterday, the LSU basketball star announced a new, multi-year partnership with Reebok. The move comes after the brand brought on Shaquille O’Neal and Allen Iverson as president and vice-president, respectively, of Reebok basketball last week, with plans to re-launch in the category in 2024.
As part of her agreement with Reebok, Angel Reese will have a curated portal of products on Reebok.com, which has been named “Angel’s Picks.” To launch the partnership, a limited-edition t-shirt celebrating the signing has been released.
On top of her own dedicated portion of the online store, Reese and Reebok will partner to launch her own capsule collection in fall/winter 2024. She will also provide input and feedback on design and product ahead of Reebok’s basketball re-launch.
Reese: “I am honored to be working closely with one of my longtime mentors, Shaq, along with a brand that I have admired since I was just a little kid. It means the world to me that they trust in me to extend their legacy to a new generation.”
The Verdict
Smart approach by Reebok using a college athlete to re-invest in basketball
Props to Angel for leveraging her brand on this potentially long-term deal, which begins as NIL and, for all intents and purposes, will carry over to her pro playing career.
Angel will also help fans get excited about Reebok, including a new generation of athletes who did not experience the company’s heyday. This will not only turn into more people consuming content, but (hopefully) more sales as well.
Not the first LSU women’s basketball player to have a non-school apparel deal
Reese is actually the third player on her team with a similar NIL deal, joining Flau’jae Johnson (Puma) and Hailey Van Lith (adidas).
As note: Athletes can wear their sponsored apparel brand products for activities such as walking to class, shopping, etc. However, they are required to wear their school’s apparel provider (Nike, in LSU’s case) for all team-related activities (games, practices, travel) and inside team facilities.
