Today’s Case

Austin’s food truck scene is pretty crowded. DeAndre Moore is wanting to stand out.
With his mother Taleea doing the cooking, the freshman wideout is using NIL money to fund Jive Turkey, a food truck with a turkey-based menu in central Austin.
While in high school, Moore was looking to incorporate leaner sources of protein into his diet as he trained to be a college athlete - one of his solutions was replacing ground beef with ground turkey. Moore wants to promote well-being and bring underserved neighborhoods leaner food options, as he noticed most food truck options were beef-based.
He also has intentions to embark on philanthropic endeavors, including providing meals for people experiencing homelessness and other initiatives.
Moore: “Growing up, I realized what a privilege it was to be able to gather around the table with my family and enjoy my mom’s warm, home-cooked meals. As a newer member of the Austin community, I’m grateful to bring those same staples to Austin’s talented food truck scene, while hopefully bringing people together in the process.”
The Verdict
Food + personal story = win/win
Using a love of turkey growing up and turning it into a food truck business is extremely enterprising. Also having his mom helping and making it a family business is a great story.
Additionally, with one of the premises offering healthier food options to the public, it shows that Moore is truly doing this for a bigger purpose (along with providing meals for the less fortunate).
Would love to see more food/cooking deals
We see plenty of athlete NIL deals with local restaurants, food chains, etc. but it would be great to see partnerships with athletes who enjoy cooking, more enterprising in the kitchen, etc.
Of course, this might limit the number of NIL deals that would be available due to the busy lifestyle of student-athletes, but there’s certainly an opportunity for a segment of college athletes to leverage.
Location is key
Moore playing in Austin is optimal for this type of deal, as the city has a robust food truck and overall food scene.
This is another case of why student-athletes should do NIL deals in their local area as it provides opportunities to impact the community.
An NIL deal cooked to perfection
The Iowa Pork Producers Association pulled off an extremely creative NIL partnership with four Iowa State football players. This video has the details!
