Tracksmith, an independent running brand, announced a new NIL initiative designed specifically for collegiate track and field and cross country athletes. The Tracksmith Varsity Club aims to help 10 NCAA athletes successfully transition to the professional or post-collegiate ranks with support throughout their college eligibility.
Those selected will have access to a series of perks, including a stipend for Tracksmith gear (apparel, footwear and accessories) and consideration for product testing. Each athlete will also be given a mentor through Tracksmith’s Amateur Support Program, as well as access to seminars with professional athletes, agents, and coaches. In addition, Varsity Club members will collaborate with the brand’s marketing team to create social media posts and other promotional content.
At the conclusion of the 2024 NCAA season, Varsity Club athletes will take a week-long trip to Europe for racing and training opportunities, with transportation, lodging and meals included.
The Verdict
Great to see NIL opportunities for more Olympic college sports
The Varsity Club initiative is a great program for these athletes and provides substantial opportunities beyond just free merchandise.
More athletes are wanting long-term value for NIL partnerships. Mentorship (which Tracksmith is offering to this cohort) are one of the many valuable perks that athletes can ask for when inquiring for their own NIL deals.
More brands are making moves in the cross country & track and field NIL space
Some examples include Stanford runner Juliette Whittaker signing with On Running, her teammate Roisin Willis inking a New Balance deal, and high school standout Mia Brahe-Pedersen partnering with Nike.
With the 2024 Summer Olympics less than one year away, look for more NIL partnerships to take place for college cross country & track and field athletes.
Hoping to see a solid cohort of field athletes
While sprinters are the main stars of Track and cross country athletes are all runners, would love to see shotputters, pole vaulters, javelin throwers, etc. in the program.
These athletes deserve NIL deals and mentorship opportunities as well, and can provide unique perspectives with their content.
