Signifying a new era of athletics at Michigan State University, more than 100 Spartan athletes signed NIL contracts with Charitable Gift America (CGA) at last month’s ‘This Is Sparta!’ Signing Day event.
Representing 11 sports, each athlete will each donate a portion of their earnings to a charity of their choice.
CGA Board President Dr. Thomas Dieters: “We’re proud that we’ve been able to facilitate our donors’ wishes and support a broad array of Spartan athletes from eleven different sports. As a model program that is fully compliant with Title IX—and one that requires all of our athletes to give a portion of their earnings back to a charity of their choice.”
Over 100 charities worldwide are already benefiting from CGA’s NIL partnerships, including St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Plan International, Place of Hope, and the Global Sanctuary for Elephants.
The Verdict
Charity aspect is always a nice touch for NIL deals
I’ve mentioned this in numerous newsletters, but the charity tie-in of NIL deals is extremely valuable and an underrated part of athletes doing these partnerships.
Giving back to the less fortunate always pays dividends, and athletes building these relationships with these organizations can be beneficial in the long run for them.
More athletes benefitting from this partnership is advantageous
It’s nice to see 100+ athletes across 11 sports tapping in to this NIL deal, as the more athletes that can benefit from NIL, the better.
Additionally, more athletes means more money distributed to more charities, meaning that hundreds (and perhaps thousands) of people benefit from these athlete-NIL charity partnerships.
International student-athletes are able to participate in this NIL deal
Since this group of athletes cannot maximize their NIL in the U.S., CGA’s unique global contract allows international athletes to benefit while maintaining compliance with all applicable law.
Women’s basketball player Isaline Alexander, a native of Ontario, Canada, is one of the athletes partnering with CGA.
With all the NIL bills being presented in Congress earlier this year, hopefully international students being able to maximize their NIL will pass soon.
