This month’s College World Series saw plenty of great action on the diamond - and numerous NIL partnerships off of it. These include (not an exhaustive list):
Tennessee-driven Volunteer Club Collective signed a team-wide NIL deal ahead of the College World Series, with each athlete earning four- figure compensation for promoting the collective on social media and autographing a few items.
Spyre vice president of athlete and brand marketing Will Watkins: “It’s a celebration of their achievement. You can’t pay them for winning. But now that they’re going to Omaha, that makes them very marketable to Tennessee fans.”
Wake Forest-driven Roll The Quad Collective released a Roll Tide The Quad NIL shirt campaign for Wake Forest baseball after sweeping Alabama in super regionals, with $10 from each sale going to the collective and exclusively for Wake Forest baseball.
Partnership Vice President Josh Strickland: “The design was initially made just for stickers for the series, but they got so popular at games that fans were demanding shirts with it on them.”
Custom Nike Air Force 1s benefit Florida baseball's NIL efforts, with 15% of each sale ($56 based on the $375 selling price) going back to Florida Victorious NIL programming for baseball.
The Verdict:
Look to see an increase in NIL initiatives around big college sports events
Women’s College World Series, CFB Playoff, March Madness, etc. should all experience more NIL activations in the coming years.
This is especially beneficial for underdog programs and small schools looking to capitalize in a big way on a big stage.
These NIL activations also generally mirror an uptick in donations
Everyone loves a winner - and no one loves a winner more than when your own school is winning, motivating you to donate to your alum to provide student-athletes with more NIL opportunities.
This also ties-in nicely for athletes for meet and greets, autograph signings, etc.
More student-athletes should do autograph signings & meet and greets
Low effort + high reward for the athletes. Click here for three reasons why!
