UNC Quarterback Drake Maye, who has quietly been earning NIL deals over the past year, is hosting his first youth football camp through an NIL partnership with Next Gen Camps, set for Saturday, May 20 in Chapel Hill, NC.
Open to kids from ages 6-18 and lasting four hours, the event will be held at the University of North Carolina’s Hooker Fields. Registration is $150, with camp participants:
Able to get autographs and pictures with Maye
Receiving a camp t-shirt
Going through position group training
Participating in a 7v7 tournament
The Verdict:
Good opportunity to connect with young athletes
Maye shows that he values the next generation of football players by hosting this camp and working with these athletes to help improve their skills.
In turn, this allows young football players an opportunity to meet and work with Maye, while competing alongside players similar in age and class.
Camps are a prime NIL opportunity for athletes
Relatively speaking, this is one of the best opportunities for college athletes to maximize their name, image and likeness.
Good way for the athletes to give back to the community, and a good way for the attendees who have a chance to meet their favorite players.
Additionally, this can work for any sport, not just football. Tennis, soccer, lacrosse, etc. are all great candidates for youth camps.
Companies like Next Gen Camps help with the logistics of facilitating - making the process more efficient and removing one of the major hurdles of hosting a camp.
Using UNC facilities is a plus
One of the roadblocks of hosting camps is that colleges oftentimes do not allow use of their facilities.
However, in this case, UNC granting access to an on-campus field is significant - a practice that more schools should follow for their respective athletes hosting camps.
