Opendorse, one of the largest NIL marketplaces, is launching a new educational resource for their athletes and their name, image and likeness.
The company announced a partnership with NIL Real Estate and Keller Williams to provide a free real estate education program via the Opendorse app, giving their athlete network a variety of video lessons and articles focused around real estate careers. The partnership also provides guidance on real estate purchasing and investment, and access to over 190,000 Keller Williams agents nationwide.
Opendorse CEO Blake Lawrence: “This partnership is a great example of how impactful NIL can be for college athletes. Real estate careers and investment have been a popular path for athletes for years. Now, with help from Keller Williams and NIL Real Estate, athletes can get a jump on their future with support from the pros.”
The Verdict:
This program sets up athletes for success while in school and post-playing days
A significant percentage of NIL partnerships with athletes are one-time deals. This partnership prepares athletes for career development and growth long after their playing days have concluded.
The program being cost-free is a major benefit
Some of the associated costs include a real estate education course ($650-$1,000) and a test prep service ($250-$500), along with a monthly fee paid to Keller Williams for agents who pass the exam.
However, students who participate in the program will have free access to on-demand real estate education, along with the opportunity to obtain a free real estate license.
After athletes pass the exam, the company assists in paying players by referrals using their name, image and likeness.
Early success from BYU may have played a factor into expanding the program
Last year, 120 Cougar student-athletes signed up for the program, of which 36 have completed their courses and 10 have earned their real estate license.
