Nebraska junior infielders Brice Matthews and Max Anderson promote the Lincoln Airport (LNK) in a recent ad through a pair of NIL partnerships.
The two players wear their Cornhusker uniforms in the video in an example of players receiving approval to utilize university marks and intellectual property in their marketing agreements. Matthews shared a short video on Twitter featuring him and Anderson stating that LNK is the official airport of the Huskers, with the official Lincoln Airport account sharing Matthews’s post and highlighting several U.S. destination cities they service.
The Verdict:
Really like the uniqueness of this deal, as currently there are not many travel-related NIL deals that athletes have done.
A MAJOR win is that school IP is being used, which makes the partnership look more natural. This can also attract more companies to do NIL deals with Nebraska and other schools that allow athletes to wear their actual uniforms for marketing purposes.
As an alternate, here is an example of an NIL deal where school logos are not permitted.
The focus of this campaign is flying OUT of Lincoln; however, there is a play here for flying IN to Lincoln
Therefore, an extended campaign would work nicely, with Anderson and Matthews partnering with the city of Lincoln (Tourism Board, Chamber of Commerce, etc.) for fun things to do in Lincoln and attract visitors.
